Beauty with Benefits Raises Largest Total To-Date for Cancer and Careers

QVC and HSN unite the beauty industry to raise $2.7M for COVID 19 Relief Grants and Employment Resources for Cancer Survivors

December 7, 2020: Beauty with Benefits surpassed expectations and previous fundraising totals to reach $2.7M in support of Cancer and Careers and its employment resources for cancer survivors despite a most challenging year.

The multimedia event, held annually since 2013, is a collaboration between QVC, HSN, and Cosmetic Executive Women, featuring generous product donations from top brands across the beauty industry. The donated products are sold on-air and online at QVC and HSN, with 80% of the purchase price* benefitting Cancer and Careers. Every beauty purchase from the promotion is eligible for a highly coveted “gift-with-purchase” bag; a curation of additional donated beauty products.

“Cancer survivors were more likely to be unemployed or under-employed before the pandemic hit,” said Rebecca Nellis , Cancer and Careers Executive Director.  “Now, there are new levels of need from survivors across the country. QVC, HSN, and the beauty industry — in addition to all of the beauty enthusiasts who shopped the event — have come together in a tremendous show of support.”

The QVC and HSN live broadcasts aired on May 28, 2020, with online sales active from May 1 through July 31.  Prestige brands ranging from iconic to indie were represented, with the majority of products selling out. In total, 65 brands participated, including Clinique, bareMinerals, SK-II, Dior, IT Cosmetics, Carol’s Daughter, Mally Beauty, Drunk Elephant, and Urban Decay.

The event’s products and purpose continue to resonate with consumers, who earned more than 83,000 gift-with-purchase bags, the most ever for this event. This year’s gift-with-purchase bag was valued at over $230 and including such fan favorite brands as WEN by Chaz Dean, Laura Geller, Korres, Fountain of Truth, BeautyBio, and more.

“At QVC and HSN, our business revolves around relationships with customers, vendors, and team members,” said Bridget Love, VP, GMM, Beauty Merchandising QVC and HSN. “Those relationships fuel everything we do, including our commitment to come together to help others. We are proud to be able to make a difference for cancer survivors as they face an important challenge — balancing their health and work during an especially difficult time.”

In addition to powering Cancer and Careers’ year-round employment services, a portion of this year’s proceeds were dedicated to the organization’s COVID-19 Relief Response, which launched in early March. New educational programs and services continue to be added to address the many cancer survivors who have been affected by the changing work landscape during this pandemic. Programs include an “Ask the Expert Series” and a trio of webinars addressing job search during COVID-19. In addition, Cancer and Careers is providing $250,000 in emergency cash assistance to cancer patients and survivors who need help paying bills, accessing technology, or developing skills and training during the pandemic and beyond.

“The Beauty with Benefits campaign inspires generosity and teamwork on a truly unbelievable scale. It sends the message to cancer survivors that there is help – and hope,” said Rebecca.

Since its inception, Beauty with Benefits has raised over $12.2 million in support of Cancer and Careers, which serves over 440,000 individuals each year online, in print, and in person.  Next year’s campaign is scheduled to launch in early May 2021.
