Corporate Philanthropy and Team Member Giving
Partners in Giving, Qurate Retail Group’s US team member giving program, matches 100% of team member donations to the following national featured charities - Nest (www.buildanest.org) and Cancer and Careers (www.cancerandcareers.org). The company also matches 50% of any team members’ donation to a charity of their choice. Since its launch in 2012 with QVC® (later joined by HSN® and Zulily® in 2019 and Cornerstone Brands in 2020), Partners in Giving has raised over $6.3 million for charities around the US.
In addition to Partners in Giving, Qurate Retail Group team members across the globe donated to various causes in 2019, resulting in a combined $1.1 million in charitable donations from our team members.
Our commitment to supporting the communities where we live and work goes far beyond the markets where we operate. In 2018 through 2019, QVC’s relationship with World Vision provided the distribution of 2,157 pallets of essentials to those in need all around the world. Through donations made to this organization, as well as others, the total product donations made since 2013 has amounted to over $20 million.
In recognition of frontline healthcare workers and their hard work and dedication during the pandemic, QVC and HSN facilitated the donation of over 10,000 appreciation packages to workers at five hospitals in the Philadelphia and St. Petersburg regions. The packages – valued at a minimum of $495 each – featured beauty and self-care products ranging from haircare to cosmetics to skincare, donated by over 40 QVC and HSN vendors.
Grandin Road Give Warmth Program
Grandin Road supported the Ronald McDonald House Charities through the “Give Warmth” initiative. For each eligible quilt and duvet cover sold, Grandin Road donated $10 through most of 2018. More than $75,000 was donated to RMHC as part of this initiative.
QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale”
In 1994, QVC US signed on to sponsor a charity fundraiser created by members of the Fashion Footwear Association of New York. The event began under a tent in Central Park where donated, unused shoes were sold to collect money to find a cure for breast cancer. Since then our partnership has grown to reach customers around the globe through our 3 hour TV broadcast where we sell discounted shoes donated by the footwear community.
Thousands of team members have contributed their time by answering customer calls, packing boxes and working behind and in front of the camera to support the cause. As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary we pause to celebrate the $58 million raised to support breast cancer research and education.
“Our philanthropy goes to the center of what we do, which is, we see our job as inspiring women every day with wonderful stories, products that can make a difference in her life. Whenever we find that intersection of being able to touch our customer community, our team member community, and use the power of our airwaves and storytelling to make a difference, and do it in partnership with our industry and footwear vendors, that’s everything.”
Mike George, President & CEO, Qurate Retail Group
Beauty with Benefits
Since 2013, QVC US has teamed up with Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) for “Beauty with Benefits,” a two-hour broadcast that brings together the beauty industry to raise funds to empower and educate people with cancer to thrive in their workplace. HSN joined the initiative in 2019.
The event features a wide range of products donated by the leading names in color cosmetics, fragrance, skin, body, and hair care. 80% of the purchase price of each donated item benefits Cancer and Careers, an organization established by the Cosmetic Executive Women Foundation to leverage the power of the beauty industry to raise awareness and funds to empower, educate and provide essential tools to people with cancer so they can thrive in their workplace.
“Since its inception in 2013, Beauty with Benefits has generated over $9.5 million for Cancer and Careers. We are proud to help unite so many powerful names in the beauty industry in support of a common goal. There’s nothing more beautiful than giving back to those who need it most.”
Rob Robillard, VP of Integrated Beauty, Qurate Retail Group
Team members from across our brands and markets volunteer their time and energy to get involved in our communities. Each year team members receive a Paid Volunteer Day to volunteer at any charity of their choice. In 2019, team members globally volunteered over 18,000 hours through the Paid Volunteer Day program and our other corporate volunteer programs. One such program is our Qurate Fellowship Program, a skills-based volunteer program in which Qurate Fellows share their experience and knowledge in an immersive, ten-day collaboration with Nest-affiliated artisan businesses. Here is just a sample of some of the other ways our teams have given back:
QGarden, QVC Studio Park
Launched in 2013 and maintained by team member volunteers, QVC’s on-site Q Garden is one of many ways we partner with the Chester County Food Bank to create neighborhood hunger fighting initiatives. To date, team members have harvested almost 20,000 pounds of produce and provide almost 2,500 hours of time in planting, tending and harvesting.
In 2016, the UK QGarden was launched in Knowsley as part of the Pay it Forward movement, which encourages random acts of kindness. The green team of QVC UK team members volunteer their time to grow their own fruit and vegetables and they donate 20% to the local food bank in Knowsley each year. To date, team members have donated 394lbs of produce to help people in need in the local community.
HSN, Habitat for Humanity
HSN team members work tirelessly each year to help construct houses with Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County, FL and HSN Cares, which began supporting Habitat for Humanity in 2011. Since then, HSN Cares has donated nearly $2 million to help Habitat for Humanity help women and families build better lives and stronger communities.
St Jude Children’s Hospital
Across HSN, QVC, Ballard Designs, Garnet Hill, Grandin Road and Frontgate®, the generosity of our customers and our team members has resulted in donations of more than $15 million to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a world leader in research into and treatment of childhood cancers and other catastrophic pediatric diseases. Over the past 14 years our donations have helped ensure that families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food.
Garnet Hill, Copper Cannon Camp
Once a year for the last decade Garnet Hill team members have headed up the road to Copper Cannon Camp in nearby Bethlehem, NH to clean up the grounds in preparation for the organization’s summer program.
Give Joy Holiday Giving Program
The holiday season is our busiest time of year, as we rush to deliver all those special gifts our customers order for their families and friends. But our team members always make time to reach out to those less fortunate as well. Each year, our teams from across brands participate in a number of charitable activities within the communities where we live and work – from the Salvation Army Angel Tree to Toys for Tots, Meals on Wheels and Wreathes Across America, as well as our local children, family and senior programs.
Our Zulily team members participated with the Seattle Sounders and RAVE Foundation to give back to local families in need for the holidays. Nearly 700 gifts were donated for the event (many from site team members and vendors) and many volunteers joined the Sounders and RAVE staff to help wrap all of the gifts.
$1,000 a Day Giveaway to Charity
Since 2014, HSN has celebrated Customer Appreciation Month (April) by asking customers to nominate their favorite charities each day for a chance to win a $1,000 donation. This “$1,000 A Day Giveaway” resulted in $30,000 annually in total donations to such organizations as K9s for Veterans, Child Advocates and Big Reach Center of Hope. HSN receives hundreds of nominations each year, and we’re honored to support the philanthropic passions of our customers.
